PAL 5241 Clinical Medicine Neurology and Psychiatry
The Clinical Medicine course Neurology and Psychiatry is designed to educate the student in the presentation, diagnosis, management, and treatment of the most common neurological and psychiatric conditions seen by healthcare providers. Due to aspects of neurological system pathophysiology that can present as psychiatric diseases and disorders and conversely, these two disciplines in medicine are presented individually as well as in combination. The purpose of the psychiatric components of the course is to introduce the Physician Assistant student to the role of the clinician providing care for patients with psychiatric disorders. Additionally, the course will provide an overview of the complex dynamics of the varied neurological and psychosocial aspects of patient’s lives which influence their health and wellbeing.
