The College manages initiatives which promote globally competitive innovation, support entrepreneurship and small business growth and advance international trade.

Small Business Development Center (SBDC)

The SBDC serves to foster small business success through providing the following services:

  • No cost one-on-one, confidential, virtual/in-person business advising from Certified Business Advisors
  • Over 150 small business seminars/webinars a year
  • Free online training workshops
  • Assistance with writing business plans
  • Providing permit and licensing information
  • Resources and much more for entrepreneurs
  • A nine-county service area
  • The Center is there for the life of the business from start, expansion, and ultimately, productive exit

Contractor Resource Center (CRC)

The CRC offers one-on-one advising to better prepare and connect area small businesses with large, multi-year projects. The program is designed to assist local businesses, by expanding business capabilities in different areas needed to compete in the commercial arena for current and future projects.

Areas of assistance provided at no cost include, but are not limited to

  • Training webinars that meet the needs of businesses in commercial contracting areas
  • Access to CRC construction software bid tool – ConstructConnect
  • Receive the CRC weekly bid list along with upcoming projects
  • Access to be listed on the Contractor Ready List that is shared with CCREDC and large industry partners
  • Access to the Plan Room to print plans and specs
  • Commercial plans printed at no cost

Internship Program

The Del Mar College Small Business Internship Program is a partnership between the City of Corpus Christi and Del Mar College. The program provides an opportunity for small businesses in Corpus Christi to grow with the assistance of trained and motivated Del Mar students that meet the specific business needs. Small business employers offer students productive and meaningful work assignments at a living wage, with a learning component related to the intern’s field of interest. The program provides an additional $5.00 per hour; therefore, the wage earned by the student is a minimum of $12.25 per hour.

The primary goal of the Small Business Internship Program is to provide support to small businesses in Corpus Christi and encourage business growth, job retention, economic development, and job creation.

Del Mar College offers over 100 degree and certificate options within 8 pathways, ensuring qualified students meet any business need.

To participate in the program, businesses must meet the following requirements:

  • Have 49 employees or less
  • Be located in Nueces County
  • Be a for profit or nonprofit business
  • Pay each intern at least $7.25 an hour
