Program Description: The Fire Science Associate of Applied Science degree program is a sequence of courses designed to prepare fire service personnel at all levels to become better officers and leaders. The program provides learning opportunities which introduce, develop, and reinforce academic and occupational knowledge, skills, and attitudes required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. Additionally, the program provides opportunities to retrain and upgrade present knowledge and skills. Completion of the program of study leads to an AAS degree in Fire Science. High school graduation or GED is required for admission to this program.

Employment Opportunities: This program provides education in leadership and theoretical and skill enhancement to firefighting professionals already trained and working in the profession.

Notes:

  • A grade of “C” or higher is required for all courses.
  • A student who does not earn a grade of “C” or higher in any two courses with the prefix FRSC or MATH, will be suspended from the program for one year. Before re-entering the program, the student must complete an individualized remedial program assigned by the department head. After the third unsuccessful attempt of any courses with the FRSC prefix, the student will not be allowed to re-enter the Fire Science Technology program.
  • Conviction of a felony or gross misdemeanor may prohibit employment in field and may make a student ineligible to take licensing/certification exam(s) required for the profession. A background check and/or drug screen may be required by some agencies before a student attends a clinical practicum. For more information, contact the appropriate program advisor.
