West Georgia Technical College, a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, serves the communities of Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Haralson, Heard, Meriwether, and Troup counties, supporting student success, economic development and the community, by providing a skilled workforce, through the delivery of relevant education and training, via high school equivalency, college credit associate degrees, diplomas, and technical certificates of credit, as well as corporate and continuing education opportunities.

Our Role and Scope
West Georgia Technical College (WGTC) is a public, two-year, multi-campus technical college that provides quality education and promotes workforce development in the West Georgia region.
An open-access institution of higher education, the college serves traditional and nontraditional curriculum students who have a wide variety of educational goals, from personal enrichment to career development to university transfer. To help students meet their goals, WGTC offers associate degrees, diplomas and technical certificates.
The curriculum includes programs in health sciences, trade and technology, business, and public service. WGTC students draw on knowledge from a broad range of disciplines to develop the communication and critical thinking skills that are fundamental to lifelong learning.
WGTC further promotes adult education and economic development through GED classes, ESL classes, continuing education courses, and corporate training for business and industry.
WGTC is committed to being accessible and responsive to community needs. To foster student success, WGTC provides quality education on many levels and comprehensive student support services. In addition to traditional instruction, WGTC’s flexible course offerings and alternative delivery methods, including online instruction, enable more members of the community to pursue higher education.

Student Rights
West Georgia Technical College promotes a climate of academic integrity, critical inquiry, strong work ethic, intellectual freedom, and freedom of individual thought and expression consistent with the rights of others. The College protects the rights of its educational mission, vision, and purpose. Students have the right to the following:
- To be in an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and to attend WGTC educational programs, courses, offerings and activities on campus or any activity sponsored by WGTC off campus in accordance with WGTC policies and procedures.
- To obtain the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities in order to acquire skill competencies and obtain employment by participating in programs, courses, offerings and activities in accordance with WGTC policies and procedures.
- To develop intellectual, personal and social values.
- To due process procedures.

Social Media Posting and Content Guidelines
West Georgia Technical College welcomes participation on our Facebook pages and encourages students to interact with the college. We hope to provide a forum for dialogue among the many diverse voices of our college and communities served, and we encourage comments about the content.
Posts containing personal attacks, profanity, nudity, hate speech or illegal material are prohibited. In addition, we will also remove any posts violating FERPA or the student right to confidentiality. We reserve the right, at our discretion, to remove any post or to revoke a user's privilege to post to our page. Opinions expressed in non-West Georgia Technical College posts are not necessarily those of the college and its employees, and we cannot guarantee the accuracy of these posts.
Representation of personal opinions as being endorsed by the college or any of its organizations is strictly prohibited. No one is authorized to use the West Georgia Technical College name to promote any opinion, product, cause, or political candidate.
COVID-19 and Public Health-Informed Campus Policies
West Georgia Technical College intends to perform its educational mission while protecting the health and safety of its students, faculty and staff, and minimizing the potential spread of the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, within the community.
Risks of COVID-19
In order to understand the risks that you face by returning to campus, you must understand that COVID-19 is a highly infectious, life-threatening disease declared by the World Health Organization to be a global pandemic. There is no vaccine for COVID-19 at this time.
COVID-19’s highly contagious nature means that contact with others or contact with surfaces that have been exposed to the virus, may lead to infection. Additionally, individuals who may have been infected with COVID-19 may be asymptomatic for a period of time or may never exhibit symptoms at all.
Because of its highly contagious and sometimes “hidden” nature, it is very difficult to control the spread of COVID-19 on campus or to determine whether, where, or how a specific individual may have been exposed to the disease. West Georgia Technical College is taking steps recommended by public health authorities to minimize the risk of spreading this disease on our campus.
West Georgia Technical College cannot and does not guarantee a COVID-19-free environment, and there remains a risk that you may contract COVID-19 if you come onto campus to live and/or attend classes. We are providing you with the following notice as well regarding the risk of contracting COVID-19 when you enter upon our campus:
Warning
Under Georgia law, there is no liability for an injury or death of an individual entering
these premises if such injury or death results from the inherent risks of contracting
COVID-19. You are assuming this risk by entering these premises.
In order to minimize the risks associated with COVID-19, the policies and guidelines below are incorporated into the West Georgia Technical College Student Code of Conduct and are applicable to all students.
Your compliance with these requirements is essential to assisting the college in minimizing the risks to you and other members of the community.
General Principles:
You are subject to all guidelines for individuals related to the COVID-19 pandemic
established by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
In addition, the State of Georgia has issued guidelines for personal behavior
during the COVID-19 pandemic and you must comply with such guidelines at all times. You understand that both sets of these guidelines may change, and it is your responsibility to ensure that you understand and comply with these guidelines at all times.
From time to time the College may implement additional requirements restricting
your behavior and you agree to comply with such requirements.
You understand that these conditions and limitations on your personal behavior are
necessary in order to reduce the risk of transmitting and/or being infected by the
COVID-19 virus and that your failure to comply with these responsibilities may
jeopardize your health and safety, as well as the health and safety of others in the
campus community, potentially causing severe illness and death.
Requirements:
Students will comply with governmental, state, and campus directives concerning
maintaining required physical distancing (six feet) between themselves and other
individuals on campus;
Students will use a face covering of their choosing that conforms to CDC
guidelines anytime that they are in an indoor space where the College deems that social distancing is not practical, including but not limited to academic spaces and dining areas (except while eating) unless given different instructions by authorized college personnel;
Students will engage in frequent hand-washing and follow proper sneeze and
cough etiquette, as recommended by the CDC;
Students understand and agree that they may be subject to regular testing for the COVID-19 virus and contact tracing, if testing and contact tracing is available, and they agree to submit to this testing and tracing, and the confidential reporting of the results to the College, without objection;
If students develop any symptom of COVID-19 as described by the CDC, they will immediately:
Inform the College by notifying appropriate personnel;
If living on campus, stay in their dorm room until given further instructions by the College;
Remain off campus if not currently residing on campus;
If required by the College, agree to remain in self-quarantine for a time period determined by the College, in consultation with public health authorities, and/or move to a different room in order to receive medical care and/or self-quarantine.
The above conditions may change, and students agree to follow all college directives relating to COVID-19 and public health requirements.
Any failure to adhere to any of the above directives is a violation of the Code of Conduct that may result in sanctions, including but not limited to suspension or dismissal from the College.
General Education Outcomes

In recognition of the growing complexity of society and the workplace, West Georgia Technical College has identified general education outcomes expected of each graduate of its credit programs. These general education outcomes reflect the breadth and balance necessary for success in a global society and provide the foundation for students’ lifelong learning experiences. West Georgia’s general education outcomes are intended to foster the development of effective communication skills, mathematical reasoning skills, critical thinking abilities, information literacy, and respect for diversity that are vital for students’ success in today’s workplace and society. General education outcomes provide the tools to help students understand, in a critical and independent way, the issues and structures in which we are immersed and to develop learning skills that will equip students for a productive life in the 21st century.
- Apply appropriate reading, writing, speaking, or listening skills to express ideas, and opinions.
- Use everyday mathematical concepts and basic mathematical tools to obtain or convey information.
- Develop critical thinking and reasoning skills for problem solving.
- Individually or as a member of a group, use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose.
- Demonstrate ability to work effectively with people who have ideas, beliefs, attitudes, and/or behaviors that are different from his or her own.
Student Warranty
West Georgia Technical College provides a guarantee of quality to all graduates of diploma or degree programs. To demonstrate confidence in and commitment to quality technical education programs which are relevant, current, and responsive to the stated expectations of Georgia's businesses and industries, the Board of the Technical College System of Georgia will warrant every graduate from programs offering a diploma or associate degree according to the following stipulations:
- This warranty guarantees the graduate has demonstrated the knowledge and skills and can perform each competency as identified in the industry-validated Standard and Program Guide; any program graduate who is determined to lack such competence shall be retrained at no cost to the employer or employee for tuition or instruction fees.
- Any claim against the warranty will be based upon an agreement between the employer and the college graduate that the individual could not perform one or more of the competencies contained in the industry-validated Standard and Program Guide.
- This warranty is included as a part of the original tuition cost at all state technical colleges in Georgia and is applicable to graduates of any diploma or degree program who entered the program subsequent to the mandated standards implementation date.
- This warranty will remain in effect for two consecutive years following the date of graduation and will be honored by any state technical college which offers the same program.
- This warranty shall be issued in writing to each graduate who enters a diploma or degree program subsequent to the mandated standards implementation date beginning in the fall quarter, 1989.
