Course Cancellation
If the event of a course cancellation, students will be notified via email one week prior to the first day of class. Students will receive a full refund if the University cancels a class.
Academic Load
The academic load for WTU students is 15 credit hours each quarter. Fifteen credit hours for six terms total the 90 credit hours required for a degree completion.
Registration
All students must meet with an Academic Advisor prior to registering for the next term. Students with holds on their accounts will be denied registration until their account is clear.
Academic Advising
Academic advising plays a major role in the student's academic career at WTU and provides degree-seeking students with individualized academic program planning.
On acceptance to the University, students normally schedule an appointment with Academic Advising to discuss their academic plans and to register for first term classes.
Throughout their academic careers at WTU, students work with their academic advisors to plan their choice of University courses. The advisor helps the student choose coursework to meet individual educational and career goals, informs students about academic policies and procedures, and helps solve a variety of academic problems. Ultimately, however, it is the responsibility of each student to keep apprised of current graduation requirements for his or her particular degree program.
Student Schedule Changes
Students may change their schedules (drop/add) during the official drop/add period as noted in the academic calendar. Prior to the beginning of classes, students may add or drop classes with the approval of an academic advisor. After classes have begun, students may add a course with the approval of the instructor and an academic advisor prior to the add deadline in the academic calendar. Students may drop classes prior to the drop deadline in the academic calendar. Drop/add forms may be obtained from the Office of the Registrar or the Academic Advising Center. In order for schedule changes to be official, the academic advisor must sign the drop slip; the academic advisor and the instructor (after classes have begun) must sign the add slip. Students who do not submit signed drop/add forms by the deadline will be graded and tuition charged according to their registration on file at the end of the official drop/add period. Merely informing the instructor or advisor of the intent to drop a class or not attending a class will not constitute an official schedule change.
Withdrawal from Courses
Students may withdraw from courses after the official drop/add period. Tuition refunds for withdrawals are made according to the tuition refund schedule. Students may withdraw from courses up to and including the last day to withdraw according to the academic calendar for each term.
To withdraw, a student must complete a withdrawal form, which is signed by the advisor. The symbol for course withdrawal (W) is recorded on the student's transcript. Withdrawals after the above dates may occur only under exceptional circumstances, and the withdrawal form must be approved by the instructor and the advisor.
Student Refunds
Tuition is refundable only when a student officially withdraws from a course. The Tuition Refund Table is indicated below and is published in the University Catalog and on the washtechu.com website. Students who are withdrawn from a course or courses for disciplinary reasons or a breach of conduct forfeit the right to a refund of any portion of their tuition and fees.
Students who neither pay for nor attend courses for which they are registered will be withdrawn from the courses for nonpayment and their accounts credited at 100% tuition. Students who attend courses without having paid for them will be withdrawn from the courses and their accounts charged according to the tuition schedule. Students must contact their Advisor or the Office of the Registrar to initiate the withdrawal process. The date the student contacts their Advisor or the Office of the Registrar will determine date of notification to establish the amount of the tuition refund, if any. Students may appeal the amount of tuition refunded due to extenuating circumstances (hardship, medical, or other related reason). Appeals submitted outside of the refund schedule may require documentation pending the decision of the university president.
Course refunds are calculated from the start day of the session, not the start date of the course.
