President's Message
Welcome to Washington Technology University, the new University serving the technology education needs of the citizens of the Northwest.
Why did we start a new University when there is such a wonderful array of public and private colleges and universities in the broader Seattle /Tacoma metropolitan region?
There exists a major gap in access to bachelaureate education in our community. Almost half of the public Community and Technical Colleges in the State are in Pierce, King and Snohomish counties, educating well over 100,000 students. But there is only one public four-year University. Even with its three campuses, the University of Washington cannot admit near as many Community and Technical College graduates who desire to continue their education towards a Bachelor degree. And the several excellent private colleges and universities in our locale are very expensive relative to the Community Colleges and resident tuition at UW or the other public colleges that have programs scattered in our region.
So where do those students go who want to get a bachelor degree, are timebound and placebound for work or family reasons, and simply cannot afford to attend colleges with high tuition or do not want to assume huge future debt obligations? The new answer is Washington Technology University.
This institution is built on the premise that high-quality bachelor education programs do not have to be expensive. Applying the best business practices, utilizing technology to enhance personalized instruction, scheduling courses to allow students to be successful and attend around family and employment obligations, and eliminating the waste that exists in established organizations, allows WTU to offer a streamlined, goal-directed, fast-track pathway to a degree that will have practical application in a growing field of need and employment. A pretty simple plan.
Working with our strong technology industry in the Northwest, the curriculum will provide students the tools to successfully compete for the enormous number of vacant jobs in our community; jobs that have decent salaries and potential for future growth. This is good for everyone: students, businesses, and keeping Northwest families together. That is why we started Washington Technology University. The need exists.
Come join us. You have proven you can succeed in college already by attending and earning your lower division credits. Finish off that bachelor degree in 18 months for $18,000. Stay local and learn your way to a new field of expertise and employment!
