RELS 3371 Radicals and Reformers

When Martin Luther posted 95 theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg 500 years ago, he had little idea the upset it would cause, or the change that would come from it. This course will introduce students to themes, individuals and movements in church reform and renewal. The focus on Western Christianity in the medieval and reformation periods will serve as a lens through which to interpret later developments, including Vatican II and contemporary movements for church reform.
