Transcriptable Certificates
In contrast to activity that leads to a paper completion certificate, all students seeking a transcriptable undergraduate Certificate must apply for admission to UIW with the same admission standards that apply for any undergraduate degree. A student may apply for admission to seek a Certificate and not an entire degree.
Program requirements for a transcriptable undergraduate Certificate must include at least three UIW credit-bearing courses. Programs will define all other requirements for their transcriptable Certificates. The institutional standard for a transcriptable undergraduate Certificate does not require any specific elements of the University Core Curriculum.
Transfer courses may be considered to apply toward Certificate program requirements, according to the same policies used for transfer credits toward undergraduate degrees.
Students who pursue a Certificate might not be eligible for financial aid or Veterans Administration educational benefits. Eligibility will vary by program.
To be awarded a Certificate a student must:
- Complete all courses and requirements defined for the specific Certificate.
- Earn no more than 25% of the required credits at other institutions.
- Achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 in the coursework that applies to the Certificate Program.
- Submit official transcripts of all coursework attempted at other colleges and universities.
- Earn a grade of “C” or better in all courses in the Certificate program.
- Be in Good Academic Standing at the end of the term the student is receiving the Certificate.
- Note: individual Certificate programs may have higher criteria for minimum GPA or minimum course grades.
Students are permitted to earn more than one transcriptable undergraduate Certificate.
Undergraduates who are currently enrolled in baccalaureate degree programs, or enrolled as non-degree-seeking students, are also eligible to seek enrollment in undergraduate
Certificate programs. A current undergraduate wishing to enroll in a Certificate program should contact their academic advisor.
Students not currently enrolled who wish to earn an undergraduate Certificate must apply for admission as non-degree-seeking, at the undergraduate level, and indicate in the application process their desire to pursue the requirements for undergraduate Certificates. If such a student wishes later to enter a degree program, they will be required to apply separately to become a degree-seeking undergraduate. Admittance to or completion of a Certificate program does not guarantee qualification for admission as a degree-seeking undergraduate.
