ENGL 312 Three American Writers

Studies three major 19th-century novelists with attention to current scholarly discussions of their works. Students read multiple works by each writer. The list of possible authors includes: Catherine Sedgwick, James Fenimore Cooper, Louisa May Alcott, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Harriet Beecher Stowe, Herman Melville, Frances Harper, Albion Tourgée, Charles Chesnutt, and Henry James.
