ENG 24500 Asian American Literature

Asian American Literature introduces students to nonfictional and fictional literary texts written by Asian American writers, including Wong, Okada, Bulosan, Chu, Tan, Hong Kingston, Chin and Hwang, etc.  Students will explore how the effects of the U.S. historical events impacted the development of Asian-American Literature from the 19th Century to Present. Through reading selected literature, students will analyze and interpret the experiences, values and traditions, and major themes of the writings in the historical, social and political contexts of their times.
