EDU 148 Creative Arts Workshop

As an introduction to the visual arts, this seminar and art workshop course is designed to assist those who plan to work creatively with children. Students will be introduced to the main elements of art (line, color, shape, space, balance, etc.) through the study of Modern Art and its major artistic movements. In the art studio workshop sessions emphasis is placed upon engaging in open-ended art experiences, using a variety of techniques (such as painting, collage, weaving, drawing, and printmaking) that could also be used in developmentally appropriate ways with children. Additionally, students work on the integration of the creative arts through puppetry, storytelling, music, rhythmic, and creative movement experiences. As a final project, students prepare a cumulative portfolio collection of their original artwork samples, creative art and music activity plans, original poetry and topical essays. An art museum fieldtrip documented by an oral and visual art critique presentation is required as well.
