ART 141 The Art of Africa, Asia and the Americas

This course offers an introduction to art beyond the Western tradition from the Islamic world; midi and Southeast Asia; China; Japan and Kore's; and the Pacific, Africa, and the Americas. Students will read texts examine art works that offer a broad cross-cultural perspective on the rich and diverse aesthetic traditions, creative expression, rituals, myths and belief systems of non-Western cultures. Course content will include art from Buddhist, Taoist and Hindu traditions; and Mesoamerican, Native American, Post-Colonial, Modern and Postmodern art.
