Why Study History?

History chronologically explores significant events in the past and attempts to explain their causes. The study of History examines biographies, documents, firsthand personal accounts and the findings of archaeologists.

Students interested in a degree in history can begin their educational goals by pursuing the Liberal Arts and Science: Humanities and Social Science degree at RCC.

Students who wish to pursue a career in history can continue their education by transferring to a four-year institution. Upon completion of their education students can obtain positions in the fields of education, research, government, and other related areas.

Discipline Goals:

The history discipline will provide students an understanding of the major events, historical developments and the individuals who shaped the social and political climate of a particular culture or region. Students will learn to appreciate the contributions and interactions of the many cultures and people comprising the civilizations of the past and present.

Upon successful completion of courses in history, students will be able to:

  • Recognize and understand the motives influencing crucial social, political and military decisions
