MAT110 Mathematics Literacy

The course is designed to develop mathematics literacy skills that are required by non-STEM majors to support their success in subsequent college mathematics courses. An activity-based approach is used to develop mathematics literacy through problem solving, critical thinking, writing and communicating mathematics. Topics include solving relevant real world problems using equations, graphs, proportions, algebraic concepts, finance and linear functions. Use of technology is integrated throughout the course. Upon completion, students should be able to use conceptual and procedural mathematical tools in a variety of contexts required for MAT14X courses. Successful completion of this course with a grade of C or better satisfies math prerequisites for MAT14X courses. Fulfills liberal arts and open elective. Does not fulfill college level math elective (MAT140 or higher).
