IS3200 Enterprise Systems Analysis and Design

This course covers key concepts, models, theories, processes, and good practices used by a Systems Analyst to better understand, plan for, analyze, design, and implement enterprise level Information Systems (IS) software that: 1) better fits with and adapts to environments the DoW seeks to become more effective and/or efficient in. 2) better exploits current and emerging problems and opportunities within the DoW’s ecosystem. This course also prepares the warfighter to plan for, analyze, design, and implement IS software that further exploits operational, tactical, or strategic opportunities. Also, how enterprise level systems analysis and design is performed, in a collaborate team centered environment, to better fit shorter-term tactical needs while considering and aligning with longer-term strategic considerations and visions. In this course the warfighter will apply their knowledge of the Systems Development Lifecycle and Systems Analysis and Design methodologies across team assignments. Prerequisites: None

Course Learning Outcomes

The overall learning outcome of this course is for the warfighter to understand and apply enterprise level systems analysis concepts, models, theories, processes, and good practices in planning for, analyzing, designing, and implementing information systems software that better supports and enables important operational, tactical, and strategic goals for the DoW. The related course learning outcomes are as follows:

  • The warfighter will understand and apply key concepts, models, and processes used in the information system planning phase that includes information systems development, project selection, and project planning as related to information systems software planning for the DoW.
  • The warfighter will understand and apply key concepts, models, theories, and processes used in the information system analysis phase that includes systems requirements discovery, process modeling, and data modeling.
  • The warfighter will be prepared to actively engage in and guide software requirements gathering and the translation of those requirements into use cases, process flow models, and logical data models used to design and implement information systems software for the DoW.
  • The warfighter will understand and apply important concepts, principles, and processes used in the information system design phase that considers information systems architecture and information systems end user interface design to better prepare engage in and influence the effective design and implementation of information systems software for the DoW.
