Director of Special Education Certification Program
Director of Special Education is an online program.
The purpose of the Certificate for Director of Special Education is to prepare individuals to be effective administrators of public school special education programs. Students must maintain a 3.0 GPA to complete the program.
Admission Requirements
- General admission to graduate study (for criteria, refer to Admission to Graduate Study).
- 3.0 or above on all graduate work attempted.
- Must hold a master's or Rank II in education from an accredited college or university.
- Must hold a valid teaching certificate in an area in special education.
- Must have successfully completed three years of full-time teaching experience. Additionally, one year as a teacher of exceptional children or as a school psychologist is required prior to program completion for professional certification.
Program Completion
- Must be unconditionally admitted.
- Candidates must file for completion at the beginning of their last semester. Applications for non-degree completion are available at https://moreheadstate.edu/academics/academic-affairs/registrar/applying-for-graduation.
- Students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
- Submit a professional portfolio and a professional growth plan (considered the exit exam) as part of EDSP 624 Practicum.
NOTE: Students must take the School Leaders Licensure Assessment as required by 16 KAR 3:090 for Kentucky certification for Director of Special Education Level 1.
