GEOG 330 Geography of Asia

Asia is now at the economic and cultural center of the world. The course serves as an introduction to the vast physical and cultural geographies of the region.  This includes its physical settings and environments, population and migration trends, economics, languages, religions, popular cultures, and political organizations.  Along the way the class might explore kimchi, sashimi, pho, balut, som tum, and/or kadai paneer. Instead of studying the stereotypes of Asian culture, commonly presented in American travel shows, this course will look at some of the more difficult areas of recent Asian history and contemporary cultures. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing. Spring 2020 (3 year rotation).
