Global Justice and Human Rights
Introduction & Overview
The interdisciplinary Global Justice and Human Rights Program introduces Manhattanville undergraduates to the basic ideas, knowledge, and skills necessary to interpret, understand, and contribute to policy and public debates pertaining to social justice and human rights. Students will explore the historical, political, and legal roots of both the current international human rights law and the institutions and organizations that underpin it, and concepts of rights and justice as they have existed and evolved in other societal and cultural contexts. Students will also have the opportunity to study a variety of issues connected to the questions of global justice and human rights including race and ethnicity, migration, indigenous rights, climate change, gender and sexuality among others. Through the program’s interdisciplinary, skills-based core, students are introduced to a wide-range of problem-solving skills and methods of thinking designed to position graduates for success in the 21st-century workplace. Students will be prepared to pursue careers in multiple professions such as human rights advocate, non-profit program officer, legal aid, policy analyst, teacher, legislator, politician, judge, lawyer, law clerk, reporter, policy analyst, social media officer, and fundraiser.
