BIO.2072 Microbiology for the Health Sciences

This is an introductory course to study the morphology and physiology of bacteria and other microbes for nursing students and other health professionals. We emphasize the history of the microbes and focus in different aspects of the prokaryotes such as structure and physiology of the bacteria. The function of the different antibiotics against the bacteria will be discussed. Other microorganisms such as viruses, fungi, protozoa and helminth will also be reviewed briefly. The basic introduction of the immunology will be introduced. Laboratory exercises will afford students the opportunity to develop skills in various practices designed to study the morphology, physiology and practical value of nonpathogenic microorganisms, including sterile technique. This course is not intended for biology majors and will not complete major or minor requirements.
