SOC 2080 Sociology Through Film

Sociologists study individual and collective interaction in a variety of groups, organizations, and settings, as a way of understanding how society works. In this course, students will explore sociological themes and topics through film. Students will learn how to view the social world through the sociological imagination, and we will use film as a method and case for the study of the social world. As a cultural object, films shape, and are shaped by, social experiences, and thus they are useful for understanding a variety of issues in our social world. In this class, we will use both narrative and documentary films to explore topics related to culture, socialization, inequality, organizations, and social change.
