MSIM 5045 Sustainable International Business
This course focuses on the integration of environment sustainability and business strategy and provides a practical approach to incorporating sustainability into the community and organization through the study of best practices. Among the key issues discussed will be: 1) the environmental challenges of climate change, pressure on natural resources and population explosion; 2) the negative impact multinational firms may have on the environmental crisis through trade and foreign direct investment; 3) the need to adopt a "stakeholder" view of capitalism vs.a "shareholder" view; and 4) the need to form alliances and partnerships between business and government. Besides lecture, the course will include reading, case studies, viewing award-winning documentaries, and field trip to a local company that is doing well in sustainability practices.
