DTH 2216 HISTORY OF AMERICAN DANCE

A survey course of 20-Century American concert dance focusing on major trends in ballet and modern dance. This course researches dances and dancers who developed a uniquely American vocabulary including: Isadora Duncan, Martha Graham, Doris Humphrey, George Balanchine, Alvin Ailey, Merce Cunningham, Jerome Robbins, Twyla Tharp, Mark Morris, the Judson Dance Theatre, and emerging artists of today. Material will be developed through lecture and discussion, guest speakers, videos, workshops , and attendance at selected dance concerts.
