LACS 101 Introduction to Latin American & Caribbean Studies
This course introduces students to the history of Latin America and the Caribbean and how it shapes contemporary issues. Drawing from historical texts, literature, film and testimonios, students explore a range of geographies, experiences and perspectives from Latin America. Covering themes such as colonization, slavery, revolution, identity, conflict, dependency and development; students read classic texts–and critique them–while crossing disciplinary boundaries from history, anthropology, political economy and literary studies.
