WGS 140 Visual, Textual, Sonic, Spectacle: Gender and Global Content Production
How do contemporary writers, musicians and visual artists from different geo-cultural realities portray gender in their works? Moreover, how do they engage social media and what role does it play in further shaping the content they produce? Through close reading, writing, and discussion, we will examine critically several selections of contemporary works from around the world and their social media presence to identify, analyze, and compare diverse conceptualizations of the gendered self. We will scaffold and reinforce our interpretation of selected music, texts and film with a variety of scholarly articles that examine these works and the themes they highlight from a variety of theoretical perspectives.
