Please visit the Office of Teacher Certification for information regarding those instructions and the NJ Department of Education for information regarding the requirements specific to the respective certification.

Declaration Requirements:
In order to become a declared Physical Education and Health Teaching Certification
Major the following criteria must be met:
- Complete an application to the major
- 65 Hour Leadership Requirement
- Departmental interview
- Evidence of a 3.0 or Higher Kean GPA
- Completion of PED 2800 with a B- or better
- Achieved acceptable levels of proficiency in ENG 1030 and COMM 1402 with a C or Better
- Achieved an acceptable level of proficiency in MATH 1030 with a C or Better
- Unofficial Transcript Printed off Kean wise indicating completion of Required Courses
- Pass the Core Academic Skills for Educators, Reading, Writing and Math Praxis 1 Exam
Graduation Requirements:
- Students must have a 3.0 GPA.
- Students must pass Praxis 2 5857 Content Knowledge in Health and Physical Education
- Students must submit a complete edTPA portfolio and meet or exceed the state passing score
- Successfully complete all clinical experiences and clinical practice
- Meet qualifications for New Jersey Teaching Certification
Program Description:
The major in physical education and health teaching certification K-12 provides for professional preparation in specialization of teaching. The program is a comprehensive educational experience consisting of a strong academic schedule with over 700 hours of clinical experience/practice. Students selecting the teaching option will be eligible to apply for their New Jersey teacher certification which will allow them to work in a K-12 physical education and health classroom setting.
