EMT 238 Trauma & Emergency Care II

(Contact Hours: 4.5) The second iteration of trauma and emergency clinical adds additional clinical experience in neurology and cardiovascular lab: hospital clinic allows the student perspective on how EMS integrates with the overall trauma and healthcare systems, especially important in the management of heart attack and stroke, and the implications of pre-hospital assessment and interventions on the continuum of care. Emphasis is placed on integration within the interdisciplinary healthcare team and communication models that support patient safety. Students are required to document patient encounters across a spectrum of ages and complaints to meet the requirements of the National Registry of EMTs paramedic competency portfolio as required for exam eligibility. PREREQUISITE: Successful completion of EMT 138 and EMT 154 is REQUIRED. Corequisite: EMT 234.
