Mission

The mission of the Department of Accounting, Business Administration, and Economics is to provide undergraduate and graduate students a business education that is grounded in real-world best practice and illuminated by Catholic social thought.  Our programs equip students with an outstanding professional competence that is fully integrated with the Franciscan value of transformational leadership in order for them to become business leaders that are ready to advance society in both profit and non-profit organizations.

Aims

Management courses provide students with knowledge of the administrative concepts necessary for a career in the modern business world. Courses in this area teach the elements of the managerial process of business organizations and the behavior of the people within them.

In addition to required courses in business, accounting, and economics, the student has the opportunity to freely choose courses in the social sciences, physical sciences, and humanities.

Program Intended Student Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of key concepts, definitions, and principles in the core areas of business.

  2. Apply business concepts, relevant information, and decision support tools to make and defend sound business decisions.

  3. Communicate effectively in written and oral formats appropriate for business audiences.

  4. Demonstrate knowledge of key considerations for effective teamwork.

  5. Evaluate ethical situations involving organizational and societal issues considering Catholic social thought.

Grade Requirement

Undergraduate business majors and minors must complete all of their business-major related courses (ACC, BUS, and ECO prefixes) with at least a "C-" or better and an average GPA in these courses of 2.0 or better.
