Franciscan University High School Advantage Program

High school students have the opportunity to earn college credits through the Franciscan University High School Advantage Program. This affordable opportunity allows juniors and seniors to earn up to 36 credits while still in high school. These credits can be counted toward completion of an undergraduate degree at Franciscan and may also be transferable to other colleges and universities. Through this program, students also have access to Franciscan Life Online to help foster a vibrant sense of community amongst learners. Students may participate in either of two ways: high school partnerships or online dual enrollment.

High School Partnerships

Several high schools—including Chesterton Schools Network, Kolbe Academy, and Homeschool Connections—have partnered with Franciscan University. Students earn credit by taking courses that are aligned with Franciscan University’s curriculum at their high school and successfully completing college-level examinations. These courses are taught in the student’s own classrooms by their high school teachers so that students earn both high school and college credit.

Headmasters and principals: Please contact Tom Costello, Program Manager, at tjcostello@franciscan.edu for more information on partnerships.

Dual Enrollment

Homeschooled and all other students who do not attend a partnered high school can still participate in the Franciscan High School Advantage Program through online dual enrollment. These courses are pre-recorded and asynchronous. Readings and assignments must be completed on a weekly basis. Local students may come to Franciscan University of Steubenville campus for regular courses on a space available basis.

Eligibility:

  1. High school students must be 16 years of age by the last day of add/drop for the semester they will enroll.

  2. Rising junior or senior in high school.

  3. Students must have a current high school grade point average of 2.4 or a C+ average to participate in this program.

Course Enrollment:

High school students are limited to six credits per semester. In the summer, they may take six credits total (not per session). A maximum of twelve (12) courses at Franciscan University may be taken for a total of 36 credits.

Processes and Procedures:

Course selection is limited to 100 and 200 level courses as space allows. Students must submit to the Admissions Office an application at www.franciscan.edu/advantage. For each semester after the initial application, high school students will need to email Tom Costello at tjcostello@franciscan.edu to register for courses. High school students cannot register themselves for courses. Registration opens on June 15th for fall semester and on December 15th for spring/summer semesters.

Cost:

The cost is only $150 per credit or $450 for 3 college credits. This is an 85% reduction in tuition as compared to in-person undergraduate tuition.
