AMERICAN RED CROSS CLUB

The American Red Cross Club is a student organization that seeks to promote the work of the American Red Cross and provide opportunities for students to serve locally and nationally in the mission of the Red Cross. Opportunities for service include: disaster relief services, safety services (First Aid, CPR, etc.), service to the armed forces members and their families, and blood donations. ANIME CLUB

The purpose of the Anime Club is to relieve the stress of university life with friends who share interests in Anime.   The club will organize regular screenings of Anime films on campus, ensuring that the content is suitable.  We also intend to spread appreciation for traditional Japanese food and deserts by serving them at festivals. For more information, contact the Anime Club at animeclub@franciscan.edu


BARON PEP BAND


The purpose of “Baron Pep Band” is to promote spirit and pride on the Franciscan University campus.  We work to establish fraternity among our members and the student Body while cultivating solid integrity, leadership, responsibility, and teamwork.  With Christ at the center of our endeavors, we continuously work to develop Christian character.  This dynamic musical group provides an energy-driving atmosphere for Baron Fans.

BOARD GAME ASSOCIATION


The purpose of the Franciscan University BGA is to provide an opportunity to play strategic board games in a friendly but competitive atmosphere where the members may meet new friends and learn about the concepts of strategic gaming. This association seeks to accomplish this by scheduling many opportunities to play different board games, including a few lengthy sessions per semester. The goal of this association is to build stronger community and to develop the mind through the art of strategy.

BREAKING BARRIERS CLUB

The purpose of Breaking Barriers is to advocate for, and promote the destruction of the stigma surrounding, individuals with disabilities, both on campus and in our society. The club aims to create an environment for individuals with disabilities free from stigmatization, judgement, or condescension, where students can be themselves, and express their differences. We also aim to influence the environment of campus to be more accepting and understanding of students’ differences, and to advocate for students to receive the accommodations and modifications they need in order to be successful.   For more information, contact the Breaking Barriers Club at BreakingBarriers@franciscan.edu

BYZANTINE CLUB

The mission of the Franciscan University Byzantine Club is to bring the riches of the Byzantine tradition to Franciscan University. The group hosts Byzantine prayers on campus and also sponsors talks. CHESTERTON SOCIETY


The Chesterton Society provides opportunities for a deepening of faith through exploration of Chesterton's literary ideas with his books and worldview.  The society hosts notable Chesterton scholars and speakers and sponsors screenings of EWTN's Saints and Scoundrels, The Golden Key, Father Brown Mysteries. For more information, contact the Chesterton Society at ChestertonSociety@franciscan.edu

 

THE COMPUTER SCIENCE CLUB

The purpose of the Computer Science Club is to promote computer skills and programming in a fun and enjoyable manner. Also, to help each other become better programmers, to learn stuff, and to gather a group of totally awesome people to (hopefully!) become friends!

The purpose of the Engineering Club (Franciscan Engineers, Inc.) is to foster an environment for students interested in the field of engineering to connect with other like-minded students, support each other in their studies, and continue to grow and learn while discerning their vocation through both social and academic activities. FAITH, FAMILY AND SMASH BROTHERS CLUB

The club seeks to provide the faith filled communal environment centered on the video game series, "Super Smash Bros".  FFSB hosts various Smash Bros tournaments at the University throughout the Fall and Spring semesters, as well as friendly matches between club members.  With this, we hope to continue the growth and improvement of the Super Smash Bros. scene at Franciscan, as well as build the faith of the gaming community located on and off campus.  For more information, contact the Faith, Family and Smash Brothers Club at FFSB@Franciscan.edu  


FR. MICHAEL SCANLAN SCHOLARSHIP SOCIETY


The Fr. Michael Scanlan Scholarship Society is open to any person who has competed in the Fr. Michael Scanlan Scholarship competition. As Scanlan Scholars, students strive to integrate faith and reason in a manner that honors the Franciscan University mission as set forth by the school’s fourth president for which the society is named, and to follow Jesus Christ, the Way, the Truth, and the Life, seeking to answer his call to “rebuild my church” and transform the culture. FILIPINOS FOR CHRIST

The primary focus and mission of Filipinos for Christ is to enhance, nourish and support the Filipino American Community at Franciscan University by means of the two pillars of our Catholic Faith and our Filipino Culture. It is our sincere desire to grow in our appreciation and love for our heritage while also growing deeper in our relationship with Christ and one another. We plan to accomplish this mission through various cultural and faith-based activities/events throughout the semester. THE GADFLY

The Gadfly is an attempt to “bite the sleeping horse,” in the spirit of Socrates. It is a student publication whose purpose is to facilitate discussion concerning campus and cultural issues as they pertain to students at Franciscan University.  We aim to be a forum for open, well-thought out, and honest discussions toward the end of knowing and loving truth in its most robust sense. THE GAME DEVELOPMENT CLUB

 

The Game Development Club has the primary mission of bringing glory and honor to God through the media of video games and interactive storytelling. This mission is to be accomplished by creating thoroughly Christian video games. HOUNDS OF THE LORD – DOMINICAN SPIRITUALITY GROUP

The group exists to promote the Dominican tradition of spirituality at Franciscan University of Steubenville (FUS), particularly the spirituality of study.  We accomplish our mission through the embodiment of the four pillars of Dominican life: Prayer, Study, Community and Apostolate. INTERCOLLEGIATE DEFENSE OF EQUALITY AND SOLIDARITY (IDEAS)

The purpose of this club is to give Franciscan students a voice in domestic and international society through advocacy among peers and representing American youth on the international stage at the United Nations.  The club's aim is the flourishing of every human life through the respect of human dignity.  Its activities are guided by the understanding that human life is sacred, and that the dignity of the human person is the foundation of a moral vision for society. INTERNATIONAL COFFEE CLUB


The purpose of the Franciscan University International Coffee Club is to promote a culture of leisure, drawing from Joseph Piper’s Leisure the Basis of Culture, using coffee as our vehicle towards fostering community.  We aim to be that much needed watering hole in the desert of commotion.  This time set aside will allow individuals to slow down, think, and discuss their experiences—allowing them to delve into contemplation and focus on the important questions in life.  This will all be achieved through weekly cupping sessions in which students will be presented the opportunity to try three different coffees from around the world, each brewed using three different brewing methods.

IRISH DANCERS


The purpose of the Franciscan Irish Dance Club is to promote a deeper appreciation for Irish culture, to cultivate new friendships, and to glorify God through dance.  The club is a way for students to become more familiar with Irish culture, to learn both traditional and nontraditional dances, and to also get a thorough workout.  For more information, contact the Irish Dance Club at IrishDancers@franciscan.edu



JUVENTUTEM CLUB


The goal of Juventutem Club is to provide for interested students an opportunity to learn more about the rich liturgical heritage of the Catholic Church.  This group is a local chapter of the international organization “Juventutem Foederatio Internationalis.” Juventutem is a movement of young Roman Catholics between the ages of 18 and 35 who are devoted to the Extraordinary Form of the Mass. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

The Knights of Columbus is the world’s largest Catholic fraternal service organization. Founded in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney, the order has been called “the strong right arm of the Church” due to its support of the Church and her apostolic mission. Our members are Catholic gentlemen committed to the exemplification of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism. The order is consecrated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and is unequivocal in its loyalty to the Pope. Our council has been serving Franciscan University since 1988 and is probably best known for its barbecues. In Service to One, In Service to All. KNITTING NOOK

The goal of the Knitting Nook is to foster a welcoming and relaxing community for men and women who knit and crochet. As a group, we strive to enrich the community with our work, through helping others, fostering an importance for craft, and developing friendships with each other. We hope to share our experiences and to learn new techniques from each other, making teaching and sharing an integral part of our club. We aim to be generous in donating our time and projects to those in need. Lastly, we strive to integrate knitting and crochet into fun, productive meetings and events, decided by the interests of the group, which will bear fruit for the community and ourselves. MARY’S MEALS

The mission of Mary’s Meals FUS is to support the work of the Mary’s Meals international organization through prayer, financial support, and raising awareness of the organization both on campus and in the community. Mary’s Meals is an international movement to set up school feeding projects in communities where poverty and hunger prevent children from gaining an education. MERCY THROUGH MARY


The Mercy Through Mary Club, aspires to spread the message of Marian Consecration and Divine Mercy. We aim to empower the students at Franciscan to grow in personal holiness through Marian Consecration, the surest, quickest, and easiest way to become a saint. Our vision is to inspire a millennium of young adults to win souls for Christ under the generalship of Mary Immaculate starting with Franciscan students. The club will facilitate studies of St. Faustina’s Diary promoting Catholic Teaching throughout campus. MILITIA IMMACULATA


The Militia of the Immaculata was created by Saint Maximilian Kolbe to promote total consecration to the Blessed Virgin Mary of the purpose of spiritual renewal for individuals and society.  Through Mary, we will attain the ultimate purpose of the Militia of the Immaculata:  the greatest possible glory of God.  The Franciscan University chapter of the Militia Immaculata (MI) seeks to remain in conformity with the goals of the worldwide MI and in contact with the national office of the MI. The mission of the Franciscan ROTC Club (Reserve Officer Training Corps) is to bring the Army ROTC program to Franciscan students, including those not contracted to the program. The purpose of 'Self Improv-ment' is to assist students who would like to strengthen their public speaking, social interactions, creativity, confidence in their gut reactions, and understanding of other people. It hopes to promote clearer communication and stronger skills in teaching, talking and leading.
