SPT 2120 CONTEMPORARY SPORT MANAGEMENT
The multi-billion dollar sport industry requires a range of management skills. This course serves as an introduction to sport management through the application of core theories and concepts to historical and current sport industry issues. Students are introduced to the wide variety of sites (from professional leagues like the NFL and English Premier League to college athletics to youth and community sport) and functions (including marketing, sales, finance, law, facility management, and event operations) within the global sport industry.
Course Outcomes
- Students will be able to:
•Define management and the nature and scope of management opportunities in the sport industry. - •Critically evaluate major challenges confronting various segments of the industry.
- •Identify theories from various sport management functions (law, finance, marketing, etc.) and apply them to historic and current sport-related issues.
- •Understand historic and current issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion and their impact on sport management.
- •Demonstrate transferable professional skills and attitudes, with a focus on personal communication, writing, and leadership.
- •Interpret source material, including trade publications and published research.
