POL 3490 GLOBAL POLITICAL ECONOMY
Global Political Economy (GPE) is the interdisciplinary subfield of Political Science that examines the interaction of politics and economics in the international system. GPE combines analysis of the global production and exchange of goods, services, and capital with the study of the social and political contexts in which wealth is created and power operates. The course introduces students to these dynamics through the examination of: the social and institutional foundations of the market system; the relationship between states, markets, and international institutions; the policy debates surrounding global trade; the effects of economic and financial globalization across countries; the politics of international development; global dimensions of poverty and inequality; and the causes and consequences of economic and financial crisis.
