This interdisciplinary course examines the meanings and dynamics of peace and non-violence on the one hand and conflict and violence on the other, at the individual, group, state and system levels. It examines diverse types and causes of conflict and violence, whether it be local or global. Considering the many philosophers and theories on peace studies, the course also looks at the strategies and mechanisms of conflict resolution, non-violent resistance and social movements.
