EDU 3650 METHODS AND MATERIALS IN TEACHING ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE (TESOL)

This course addresses instructional theory, methods, best practices and pedagogy in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL). The course introduces strategies for teaching reading, writing, listening, speaking, and culture awareness for a range of abilities (children/adult), proficiency levels, and instructional environments. Students will be expected to develop lessons, differentiate instruction, and develop skills for collaborative instruction with other education professionals, family and community. Attention to development of a positive and productive learning environment, as well as demonstrating awareness of cultural factors and multilingual learners will be stressed.  A 30-hour practicum is included in this course.
