SPN 315 EXPLORING IDENTITY IN THE SPANISH SPEAKING WORLD
This course will improve students’ ability to understand and articulate in their words an accurate comprehension of many types of Spanish-language texts. The word ¨text¨ is used in a broad sense, to include almost anything meant to communicate information and ideas. Texts will be chosen from written, audio, and visual materials. Students will “read” works such as paintings, posters, commercials, songs, newspaper articles, reports, short stories, and other types of messages selected from the Spanish-speaking world that describe, present or represent the identity of a particular nation and/or community. This development of critical reading skills, and writing, and speaking with greater accuracy and more precise vocabulary, will put students on the pathway toward achieving adult-level literacy in Spanish. Taught in Spanish.
