Major Check Sheet
A Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Applied Mathematics requires the following courses: 24 sh
Choose three courses from the following: 12 sh
MTH 220/STS 212 | STATISTICS IN APPLICATION | 4 sh |
MTH 241 | DISCRETE STRUCTURES | 4 sh |
MTH 326 | THEORY OF COMPUTATION | 4 sh |
MTH 329/STS 341 | PROBABILITY THEORY AND STATISTICS | 4 sh |
MTH 330 | MATHEMATICAL REASONING | 4 sh |
MTH 343 | MATHEMATICAL MODELING | 4 sh |
MTH 445/CSC 445 | NUMERICAL ANALYSIS | 4 sh |
MTH 471 | SPECIAL TOPICS | 2-4 sh |
| ONE RELATED COURSE FROM AN ALLIED FIELD OUTSIDE THE MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS DEPARTMENT | |
Note: At least 4 sh must be MTH 400 level and a student CANNOT count both MTH 241 and MTH 330 toward the major
A related experiential/capstone experience approved by the department: 2-4 sh
Total Credit Hours: 38-40
A student may be exempt from MTH 110 and/or MTH 151 by demonstrating proficiency.
Once a student has received credit, including transfer credit for a course, credit may not be received for any course with material that is equivalent to it or is a prerequisite for it without permission of the mathematics department.
All graduating mathematics majors are required to complete a senior portfolio of their work. This portfolio will include a compilation of their work across their four years of mathematical study at Elon; therefore, students should be mindful of this requirement as they complete work for all their courses and be sure to retain electronic copies of work that they may want to include in their portfolio in their senior year.
