SOWK 377 Social Work in the School
This course prepares students for social work in the public school system. Special focus is placed on educational services to diverse groups of students (e.g. children with special needs: physical, emotional and cognitive, immigrant and homeless families, English as a second language, and etc). A range of contemporary issues relevant to school-based services are explored (e.g. bullying, weapons in school, gender identity, social media, and school violence). This course also addresses current federal and state (NC) laws and school social work ethics as they relate to practice with children and their families.

Sophomore or higher status.
