HONO 2003 The World: Nature's Fury

This course is an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural look at the impact that various natural hazards have on human populations. The course will focus on how individuals and societies around the world attempt to mitigate their risks from natural hazards and cope with the aftermath of disaster events. The geological and climatological causes of various natural disasters, the effects that these disasters produce, and the areas of the world that are most at risk for each disaster will also be discussed in detail.
