HIST 3348 Age of Napoleon, Victoria, and Bismarck

Explores the social, economic, religious, and political developments in Europe from the coming to power of Napoleon (1798) through the long reign of Queen Victoria (1837-1901) to the death of Otto von Bismarck (1898). It was a period of cultural, political and scientific change and the expansion of empires. Europe was transformed from an agrarian society into an industrialized continent which plunged the world into war in 1914. This century also saw a growth of nationalism, a call for universal male suffrage, and the campaign for women’s rights. It is sometimes called the Age of Progress.
