Course Description

BIOL 1406. BIOLOGICAL CONCEPTS I: CELLULAR AND MOLECULAR (3-3-4) Provides a foundation in biological concepts for students majoring in the sciences. Includes fundamentals of molecular biology, cell structure and function, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, cell reproduction, genetics and biotechnology. Students should take courses from the major's track sequence (BIOL 1406, BIOL 1407, BIOL 1411 and BIOL 1413) or the nonscience major's sequence (BIOL 1308/BIOL 1408 and BIOL 1309/BIOL 1409) but not both. Credit given for only one of BIOL 1308, BIOL 1406, or BIOL 1408. Prerequisite: One year each of high school biology and chemistry or concurrent enrollment in CHEM 1411.
