This program provides the course work to meet the educational requirements for Echocardiography as certified by the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), 1361 Park Street, Clearwater, FL 33756, (727) 210-2350; and the Joint Review Committee on Education in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, 6021 University Boulevard, Suite 500, Ellicott City, MD 21043, (443) 973-3251.
The program is designed so that it may be taken as an Associate of Applied Science degree after completing 32 semester hours in general education. Deadline to apply is December 1st. Students will receive written notification of acceptance to the program.
Students applying to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program must:
- be eligible and applied for admission to Del Mar College
- supply the Registrar’s Office with official copies of college transcripts
- supply the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program office with copies of official transcripts
- have completed a Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program data sheet/application
- You must have completed a CNA (Certified Nurse Aid) certificate program or show proof of one of the following exemptions:
- CNA certification is NOT required if you have completed one or more of the following direct patient care programs: EMT- Basic, Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Nuclear Medicine Technologist, Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA), Paramedic, Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA), Radiologic Technologist (RT-R), Registered Nurse (RN), Respiratory Therapist, and Surgical Technologist.
- Active status CNA certification is NOT required.
- have a minimum of 2.5 GPA
- present all college transcripts showing completion of prerequisites
- have an advising session with the program director, for information call (361) 698-2858
- be selected on an individual basis by Admissions Committee
If admitted into the program, a background check and drug testing is required as mandated by our accrediting agency and clinical affiliates. A physical exam and current CPR card must be submitted prior to the first day of class.
*Certified Nurse’s Aide (CNA) courses can be acquired through the Del Mar College Continuing Education Health Care Programs at 698-2122 (NURA 1001 and NURA 1060).
