Program Overview

Mission:

The Advanced Technical Certificate in Cybersecurity and Cyberforensics provides students with an understanding of both technical and managerial aspects of computer and network security and digital forensics. The program integrates theory, legal considerations, and technical forensic and security tools and techniques. Students complete hands-on projects requiring the application of technical knowledge to solve real-world problems. Innovative instructional methods and lab-based learning promote student success.

Description:

This program consists of 18 credit hours designed to develop proficiency in the protection and analysis of computer and network systems. The program addresses the growing demand for IT professionals with expertise in cybersecurity and cyberforensics.

Outcomes:

Graduates of the program will be able to:

1. Design security solutions based on policies and risk management.
2. Employ forensic procedures to preserve the integrity of digital evidence.
3. Analyze file systems common to Windows, Linux, and macOS operating systems.
4. Manage computer and network incidents and intrusions.
5. Design security audits, continuity of operations plans, and disaster recovery strategies.

Admission and Certificate Requirements

Admission:

• Submit an Advanced Technical Certificate in Cybersecurity and Cyberforensics application.
• Meet one of the following educational requirements:
  • Hold a conferred Associate in Arts (A.A.), Associate in Science (A.S.), or Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Have completed at least 60 transferable college-level credits from a regionally accredited institution, including a minimum of 15 credits of General Education coursework.
• Complete all General Education and core coursework with a grade of "C" or better.
• Successfully complete ENC1101, MAC2311C, and PHY2048C, or equivalent or higher coursework.
• Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5. Students with a cumulative GPA between 2.0 and 2.49 may be considered for conditional admission with approval of the Department Chair.
• Complete all prerequisite courses required for the certificate.
• Submit official transcripts from all previously attended postsecondary institutions. International transcripts must be evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES).

Completion:

• Earn a grade of "C" or better in all program-specific and prerequisite courses.

The Cybersecurity and Cyberforensics Advanced Technical Certificate prepares individuals with prior technical education for advanced roles in cybersecurity operations, cyber defense, digital forensics, incident response, vulnerability assessment, and information security. Graduates are equipped with specialized skills to help organizations protect digital assets, investigate cyber incidents, and respond to evolving cybersecurity threats.
