ENG 233 Living for the City: Urban Landscapes; Urban Lives

The city is a place of energy and a place of alienation; a place of community and a place of disintegration; a place of freedom and a place of power abused. This course will explore the representation of the city in poetry, fiction, music, and film. The emphasis will be on US works, but we will also touch on the history of the city in literature as well as cross-cultural representations.
