MUS 338 Hip-hop and Resistence
An investigation of the trajectory of Hip-hop over the past fifty years. Topics under investigation include the intersection of Hip-hop with social movements, politics, history and identity, and the ways in which it has functioned as a catalyst and reflector for a rapidly changing society. The class analyzes contemporary issues and representation of race, class, religion, gender, systemic oppression/injustice, Pan-Africanism, liberation ideology and self-determination in Hip-hop and adjacent musical genres.
Prerequisite
MUS 215/
AAS 210, or FYS 103, or permission of instructor.
