MATH 260 A Cultural Perspective on the History of Mathematics

From the ancient Egyptians and Mesopotamians through the medieval Indian, Chinese, and European nations up to recent history, students will study the cultural contexts in which mathematical developments occurred, the impact these contexts had on the mathematicians and their developments, and the historical mathematical methods of these cultures.
