ANTH 207 Introduction to Medical Anthropology

This course provides an overview of the major topics in medical anthropology, primarily from a biocultural perspective. Medical anthropology examines human health, illness, and disease and the diverse ways people across cultures understand and respond to these conditions. Recognizing our interdependence and appreciating the varied cultural voices and experiences that shape our world, this course will explore topics such as ethnomedical systems, ethnopharmacology, infectious disease, nutrition, mental health, healers, and reproduction. Finally, it will consider how medical anthropology is applied to global health.
