NEUR 123 Introduction to Neuroscience (NS)

This course examines the human nervous system across several levels of analysis. Students will learn about the development and function of various brain cells, the electrochemical processes of communication, the anatomical and functional organization of the brain, and address key theoretical issues in the field. Certain interdisciplinary topics will be introduced that can be further explored in other courses. This includes how drugs affect the brain, pain perception, consciousness, and several student-selected topics. At the end of the course, students will give group presentations on topics selected from an instructor-curated list with an emphasis on the scientific modeling of human neurological functioning.
