Languages, Literatures and Cultures Major

37-39 credit hours

The Languages, Literatures, and Cultures major combines the study of two languages.

Primary & Secondary Languages (26-28 credit hours)

Complete the Introduction to Language I & II courses (6 cr) and Intermediate Language I & II courses (6-8 cr) for two languages.

Students who select Latin or Greek as their primary language must select either French or Spanish as their secondary language.

Language Electives (8 credit hours)

Complete 8 credit hours of language electives at the 300-level and/or 400-level.

FREN & SPAN courses must be taught in the target language.
320 or 321 is strongly recommended if French or Spanish is the primary language.
LALC-prefix courses taught in English (LALC 297, 397) may not count toward the minimum elective requirement.

ENGL 289 is strongly recommended for students planning to pursue graduate studies in a foreign language. Other courses may, upon the approval of the dept. chair, also fulfill the requirement.

Languages, Literatures and Cultures Sample Plan of Study

Following is one possible way to complete the major.  

Students should fill in gaps with coursework required for the core curriculum and other majors/minors to take an average of 14 credit hours each fall and spring, and 3-4 credit hours each Interim.  Total credit hours needs to be 124 for degree completion.
