ITEL 400 The Science and Ethics of Artificial Intelligence
This course explores how artificial intelligence systems work, how they are developed and applied, and how they influence individuals, organizations, and society. The course introduces foundational concepts in machine learning, generative AI, automation, and intelligent decision-making without requiring prior programming, mathematics, or artificial intelligence experience. Scientific principles are examined alongside ethical concerns involving bias, privacy, transparency, accountability, security, intellectual property, human oversight, and the social consequences of AI adoption. Through contemporary examples and interdisciplinary analysis, the course emphasizes informed evaluation of AI capabilities, limitations, risks, and responsible-use practices.
