PSY 419 ADV CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Seminar addressing essential issues in the science and practice of contemporary clinical psychology designed for future mental health professionals. This course emphasizes experiential learning of assessment and psychotherapy theories and techniques as well as the cultivation of cultural humility and reflexivity for the purpose of building skills to support strengths-based and equity-minded clinical practice and research. Students will engage with dominant and liberatory approaches to diagnosis, assessment, psychotherapy and preventative interventions, professional ethics, the US mental health system, and important equity and social justice initiatives in clinical psychology. Active participation including role plays, case conferences, self-assessments, discussion, and presentation are essential components of this course.
