ART 299 VISIONING THE (IN)VISIBLE

What does it mean to do research in the process of art making? How do artists in any discipline mine a subject, tease out hidden meanings, or express a point of view? How can an artwork open new fields of vision and understanding? This course will address the subject of "Power, Privilege, and the Invisible" through an intersectional lens, while introducing a variety of research strategies that artists, performers and designers utilize in the creative process.  Students will gain experience in the critical reading of words and images though discussion, library and field research, films, material experiments, and collaborative projects while they create art and present ideas in both written and visual form. ART 299 is team-taught as a partner course to AHI/ANT 299, "Secrecy: Power, Privilege, and the Invisible".
